Bulk trash pickup rules in Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville and Lakeway (2026)

Short answer: every city around Austin handles bulky trash differently. Austin gives curbside customers up to three on-demand bulk pickups a year. Round Rock gives one free scheduled pickup a year. Cedar Park allows up to seven bulk items on your regular trash day. Pflugerville and Lakeway handle it through their city trash programs and events. All of them require curbside placement, and most exclude appliances with refrigerant, brush or construction debris.

Rules change. We checked city sources in October 2026, but confirm with your city before setting anything out.

Austin: on-demand bulk collection

Since January 2025, Austin Resource Recovery has used an on-demand, appointment-based system instead of fixed neighborhood bulk weeks.

• Who: curbside customers, meaning single-family homes up to fourplexes. Most apartments, condos and businesses aren't eligible.
• How many: up to three collections per service per calendar year. Bulk, brush and household hazardous waste each count separately.
• How to book: the Austin Recycles app, online, or by calling 311 (512-974-2000).
• Drop-off option: the city's Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center at 2514 Business Center Drive takes household hazardous waste, tires, scrap metal, electronics, large appliances and brush, by appointment only.

Round Rock: one free bulk pickup per year

Round Rock ended its fixed spring cleanup in January 2025. Now:

• Each residential customer gets one free bulk pickup per calendar year.
• Schedule it with Republic Services at 512-255-4980, at least one week ahead.
• Not accepted: Freon appliances (fridges, freezers, AC units), automotive products, brush, chemicals, construction debris, paint, tires and TVs.

Round Rock also runs separate household hazardous waste collection for chemicals and paint.

Cedar Park: up to seven bulk items on trash day

Cedar Park's trash service is run by Republic Services:

• Put up to seven bulk items at the curb next to your cart on your normal service day.
• Additional bulk collection is available for an extra fee. Call 512-215-5050 to arrange it.

Pflugerville: curbside service and Clean Up Day

Pflugerville handles bulky items through its city trash service and holds periodic Clean Up Day events for things like electronics, paint and vehicle batteries. Current limits vary, so check pflugervilletx.gov/cleanup or call Public Works at 512-990-6400 before you set items out.

Lakeway: Waste Connections

Lakeway contracts residential trash and recycling with Waste Connections (contract renewed in 2024). For bulk-item questions, contact the city's Solid Waste department at 512-314-7514.

Where to take things the city won't

• Hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, batteries, motor oil): city household hazardous waste programs, such as Austin's drop-off center by appointment, or county collection events.
• Williamson County residents: the Williamson County Landfill at 600 Landfill Road, Hutto ((512) 759-8881; Mon–Fri 7 AM – 5 PM, Sat 7 AM – noon) has a recycling center for county residents.
• Usable furniture and household goods: local donation centers such as Goodwill Central Texas.

When it makes sense to hire a junk removal crew

City programs are a good deal when the timing works and your items fit the rules. A hauler like PickUp Haulers is the better choice when:

• Items are inside, upstairs, in the attic or in the backyard, and you can't get them to the curb
• It's on the excluded list: refrigerators, brush piles, construction debris, TVs
• You've used up your free pickups for the year, or you have more than the item limit
• You live in an apartment, condo or business that isn't eligible
• You need it gone today or tomorrow, not in two weeks
